New Treasure At Saqqara Unearthed In Egypt

Egypt has unveiled an amazing new find of treasure at Saqqara. And yet, all made of just wood!

In the shadow of the Step Pyramid. To be found northwest of Memphis and south from Cairo.  This astounding find of treasure from an undisturbed necropolis with over 100 coffins in perfect condition.

This new archaeological discovery in Saqqara was announced on 14th November.

The Egyptian archaeological mission has uncovered 100 sealed wooden coffins with mummies. All in their initial condition.  Along with 40 statues of the deity, Ptah Soker or the God of the Saqqara Necropolis.

The condition is first class.

Also gilded statues and 20 wooden boxes of the god Horus and two statues of “Phnomus” made of acacia wood. In addition to the unveiling a number of Shabtis statuettes.  Many amulets were found.

Plus, four gold masks of gilded cartonnage. This is a layered material of linen, plaster and papyrus and used in Egyptian funerary.

Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities spoke about Saqqara. Explaining that it is one of the most important sites of the Memphis necropolis.

Memphis being the first capital of Egypt.  And the Necropolis of Memphis is listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites.

Plenty of new finds to work on.

He went on to say that Saqqara is a very rich historical area.  That today is still full of mysteries. Which over time have been revealed to the world.

Yet More Treasure At Saqqara Will Be Found

With the continued excavations going on there that there are yet more human and animal tombs to be found.

The minister explained that this new discovery was at the same place as the previous ones. That were announced just last month.

Further burial shafts have been located.  With further exploration planned.

Adding , he also said that this discovery will not be the last in 2020.

Following on, from a statement from Dr. Zahi Hawass . He had informed him a few days ago of yet another new archaeological discovery in the Saqqara.

Saqqara Important For Tourism

Mr. Hisham Okasha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Egypt.  He expressed his pride with the link to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Especially supporting those that positively affect the tourism industry in Egypt.  Which is an important industry that affects the national economy.  And, the lives of thousands of its workers.

It is worth noting that the area in which this discovery was found is an area of the “tomb of noblemen”.

Not only of some senior people.  But it is also is the sacred necropolis of cats, animals and birds.

The condition is very good of all the new finds.

The recent great discovery of the tomb of “Wahty”.  A leading priest of the Fifth Dynasty. Recently featured in a TV documentary that went out around world.
