Visit Sand Sculptures At The UK’s Only Such Park

The finest of work and sheer scale of a new exhibition of sand sculptures are now open to the public in Dorset.
5metre high piles of sand are turned into works of art. Full of meticulous and intricate detail.
The theme is generally from the world of film, cinema and TV.

Along with a stunning political work done by Ukrainian Sand Sculptor Slava Borecki reflecting the Ukrainian Russian conflict.
All to be seen at the SandWorld Sculpture Park in Weymouth, Dorset.
The park has been running in the town since 2011. Providing the UK’s only permanent sand sculpture exhibition space.
Owned by David Hicks and Mark Anderson the park was created after Mark took over from his Grandfather Fred Darrington who had been running a sea front display from the 1930’s.

The park needed some 75 lorry loads of sand brought to the site and in around a few months the pair with help from family and friends transferred the derelict site.
Sand Sculptures Made With Just Sand And Water
All the sculptures are created using just sand and water!
This particular sand from Weymouth Beach is extremely fine and once compressed provides a first class medium in which to carve out very fine detail.

Mark has used his skills learned on the beach in the town to work on many commercial projects around the world.

A giant sand castle hotel built on Weymouth beach.
He has created life sized cars. For one company he carved out a small version of Mount Rushmore. This was for a men’s fragrance company using the faces of trendy pop and sports stars.

Mount Lynxmore the huge sand sculpture was 5 metres wide and over 3 metres high.
Going even larger than that. He once built with 1,000 tonnes of sand a giant sand castle hotel. Where you could sleep under a 1,000,000 stars! This was for a hotel room booking chain.

This particular sand from Weymouth Beach is extremely fine and once compressed provides a first class medium in which to carve out very fine detail.
Over the years artists have come to Weymouth from literally the whole world in order to leave their work on display for each summer season.

Michela Ciappini (34) from Italy says its the finest sand.
Mark has done the reverse and has travelled all around the world carving out his career too. He has been to most of the European countries, Saudi Arabia, the USA, India and Australia.
SandWorld showcases some of the world’s leading sand sculptors – and is the UK’s only Sand Sculpture Festival.
Make Your Own Sand Sculptures
During this current season, sand sculptures based on films and TV. These include Alien vs Predator, Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mandalorianand Star Wars. Latest star of Dr Who (14th) Ncuti Gatwa is now featured for the very first time here in Weymouth.

The plan is to include new displays throughout the season, with guests being able to watch in wonder as sculptors create their works of art using from tiny metal tools to even a large machete!

Open daily from 10.30am there are some restrictions for dogs but well behaved ones on leads can visit. Old or young can try out to create a mini masterpiece.
