Jurassic Coastal Cruises Starting After Covid-19
Passenger cruising along the UK’s Jurassic coast is getting ready to start again in Dorset after a year of various Covid-19 restrictions.
The Coastline Cruises team who operate trips from Weymouth Harbour have just relaunched their two boats for the up-coming season.

These wooden boats called ‘My Girl’ and ‘Enchantress’ have over the years been extremely popular with visitors to the South Dorset area.
‘My Girl’ has a pedigree of wartime service as she was used to supply the defences of Portland Harbour during the Second World War.

Built in Cornwall 90 years ago. However, in 1939 she was requisitioned by Major Glass of The Royal Army Service Corp for use in Weymouth and Portland. She has mostly remained in around the two ports.

‘Enchantress’, has for years been taking tourists out to view the stunning World Heritage Jurassic coast. Which include the iconic locations of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Plus Redcliffe and White Nothe.

For most of 2020 the two boats were unable to operate due to the Covid-19 epidemic regulations.
‘My Girl’ has operated for many years as a ferry to and from Portland from the south side of Weymouth Harbour.

The journey takes around 40 minutes. It also calls in at the D Day Museum in Castletown passing two huge Mulberry Harbour units. Plus, at Portland Marina.

Her wartime service was taking part of the build-up to D Day in 1944. As a large section of the US the invasion force was amassed in both Weymouth and Portland Harbour’s.

Awarded a plaque by the Royal Artillery Association for her assistance to the miltary. This was for the work she did taking stores and artillery shells out to the anti-aircraft guns that were mounted all around the port.

‘Enchantress’, too has a history going back to the wartime 1940’s. She was built in Canada in 1943 for the Royal Navy. Spending her working life in and around Weymouth and Portland.
Making use of her strengthened hull for working with cables and chains. And, was probably used for deploying barrage balloons around the harbour.
