A PORT OF CHOICE BY CRUISE SHIPS VISITING THE U.K.

Portland Port Dorset UK will have visits from at least 20 cruise ships this year which is making the port a perfect destination for passengers wanting to visit Southern England.

Places that can visited include Stonehenge, which is certainly the most popular of the excusions, the city of Salisbury with its wonderful cathedral plus being in the county of Dorset there is the connection with famous author Thomas Hardy, the World Heritage Jurassic coast including Lulworth Cove and The Isle of Portland itself with its links to the stone industry, much of London is built from Portland stone.

Nearby to the port is the delightful Georgian seaside town of Weymouth with its pretty fishing harbour and lovely sandy beach making it a great choice for those that want to spend some time close to the ship when it docks.

As the years start to go by the list of ships visiting Portland Port is steadily growing. By the year 2018 its hoped that around 30 ships a year will be calling in there are plans to expand the length of the berths so the port will be able to cope with some of the longest cruise ships currently being built.

Perfectly located on the south coast of the UK access from the port to places like Stonehenge, Salisbury and Bath are all possible for day trips taken from the port. Bringing in passengers also means that the local towns get the chance to encourage more such visitors to spend well in the local shops, cafes etc.

The port has grown slowly since it was taken over from the Royal Navy and the commercial development within the port has brought in yet more business for its owners.
