FOREWARNED AND FOREARMED IN FES

The fort in FesIS IT FES FEZ?

Arming yourself with prior information is what the military use to their advantage and using the military itself to your own advantage is well worth it in the city of Fes in Northern Morocco.

Situated high above the city on its northern side there is one military facility that offers the best vantage point for views over the fortified medieval city below and for the most modest fee of 10Dh or around 70pence in £s or just under €1 its there for you too.

GREAT VIEWS OVER FES

The city of FesThe 16thcentury military Bastian now an arms museum which may or may not appeal or in fact be of that much interest to you but you would certainly attack yourself for not taking a small amount of time out from your visit to Fes and not admiring the widest possible field of view of the ancient city.

From a military point of view it provided an excellent defensive vista and I do recommend that you use those years of military know how to your own advantage and fire away with your camera instead of a musket or rifle from the extensive upper ramparts for some great images of Fes!

Although I have to say do you spell the name Fes or Fez? Both seem to be used!

The city with its closely packed narrow streets that provide plenty of shade but in turn do make it hard to try to navigate them. Traders often fill both sides of the alleys and lanes with an endless amount of chatter constantly going on.

Certainly getting out from them and trying to understand the bigger picture is where the fort come in and its views.

Once there it all then seems to make much more sense but getting there can be the problem.
