BOAC LIVERY PLUS BEA TO FLY AGAIN
A 100 years of British Airways and 50 years of the first flight of a jumbo jet anniversaries came together at London Heathrow Airport today.
As a Boeing747 sporting the livery of BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) landed at the airport to mark both of these air transport land mark celebrations. A special announcement has been made today to say that BEA liveried aircraft will be the next of the heritage designs to be used on another aircraft.

Flying into London after being repainted in Dublin in the colours of BOAC that was last seen flying in between the years of 1964 to1974.
Carrying the registration number G-BYGC it arrived touching down on runway 27L at 10.05am Feb 18th 2019 with a huge press and media presence to record the event.
Cabin and flight crew ready to go again as the plane is then off to New York the following morning.
The plane cannot spend any time living off its laurels, as it will be heading off tomorrow to New York on its first commercial flight in it’s new colours, which it will sport until it retires in 2023.

This BOAC 747 liveried plane will be the first aircraft to receive a popular design from British Airways’ past. As part of its 100-year birthday, British Airways brought in the much-admired design of its predecessor British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC).

The plan is for the airline to introduce further designs which are to be revealed in due course. Those receiving the retro liveries will fly on British Airways’ routes proudly showcasing some of the popular designs in order to help mark the airline’s centenary celebrations.

Meanwhile other new aircraft like the A350’s entering service with will still be painted in what is called Chatham Dockyard livery.

British Airways will have retired the majority of its 747 fleet by the time G-BYGC reaches the end of its flying life around 2023.
The airline is to introduce 18 new state of the art A350s and 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s over the next four years as well as another 26 short-haul aircraft, all part of the airline’s £6.5bn investment.

The Airbus 319, reg G-EUPJ, will enter the IAC paint bay at Shannon Airport this weekend where it will be repainted in the BEA livery. It flew predominantly on domestic and European routes between 1959 and 1968. However, there will be a significant difference with the replica; the aircraft will have a grey upper wing, rather than the traditional red, to meet current wing paint reflectivity requirements.
It will return to Heathrow and enter service in March flying on routes across the UK and Europe, with the design remaining on the aircraft until it retires in 2020. Both the BEA and the BOAC heritage liveries are part of a special series to mark British Airways’ centenary, as the airline celebrates its past while looking to the future.
