Members of the British Guild of Travel Writers investigate the region and spent time at the Ettersburg Palace where they were entertained with a selection of music by from Beethoven to Piazzolla performed by Konstanze von Gutzeit (cello) and Daniel Hiede (piano).

The tastes of the country were included with members keen to taste the beer and the famed sausages that are sold from numerous places all over the country.

Staying at the famous Elephant Hotel in Weimar the group toured a nearby former Jewish prison and work camp as well as finding out more about the arts and people like Goethe, Schiller, Wagner and of course Bach who all had close connections with Weimar and the area of Thuringen.

Situated in the former East Germany the area had for many years been under Soviet control before it reunified with the West. Some well known cars were once made in the area the Wartburg for instance was made very close by.

Followed by a firework display and a chance to tour the White Room within the palace.
