Will Post Covid-19 Travel Ruin Your Holiday Memories

My thoughts on when we start travelling again just how Covid-19 will impact on the experience of travel!
Although, as a travel writer/blogger, I so want to travel again and here comes the…However, I really fear that the experience of post Covid-19 travel will just not measure up to those of pre Covid-19 times!

Christmas shopping in Vienna post Covid19…Well would you?
Therefore, I am thinking, do I really want to travel anywhere at all at this moment in time?
Whilst we were all here on lockdown, I should have been heading off to the Seychelles for nearly two weeks, enjoying the delights of the tropical Indian Ocean’s climate, food and wildlife.

Wildlife encounter at Bird Island Lodge Seychelles was missed this year!
I have been lucky to enjoy several pre Covid-19 experiences there on a number of occasions.
However, for me, it just would not feel or be the same. Even if I could leave for Mahe tomorrow.
Memories Before Post Covid-19 Travel
Memories of taking a typical tropical pre Covid-19 break will be exactly that. A memory!

Typical fun travel experience with colleagues before Covid-19 but now will just not be the same for all of us!
Imagine being relaxed and warm, taking in the sunshine and you fancy a bite to eat or drink.
The ease of the usually straightforward action of stopping by a bar or restaurant that you have just walked past. Will now turn that simple errand into a hoop jumping exercise.

Stopping for a meal with friends post Covid-19. Well no way will you be able to do it like this for some time!
Enjoying an ad-hoc visit to a place you pass where you like the smell of the food, sound of music or the overall vibe will now be gone!

The lonely planet social distancing dining for post Covid-19 travellers!
Those random decisions we all make whilst on holiday are totally out now, post Covid-19.
Your post Covid-19 experience will be one of queueing, face masks or making appointments to dine out or just to visit. I am unsure that that is the holiday or travel experience I currently want?
Although, it will be likely the experience I will get!

The typical English pub will be a totally different experience and it will not be for me.
Resorts all over the world are telling us that they are making these destinations Covid-19 safe.
Indeed, these places will be safe. And to travel to them will be as safe as it can be. That is not my point.
Encounters with other people, be they, other guests or staff, have now all been altered by the pandemic.
Wary Wanderers In Current Travel Times
We will all be wary wanderers.
I have so many wonderful memories of places I have visited over the years. But now fear that to return to these places at this present time would taint those incredible memories forever.

Interacting with such lovely people whilst travelling. Not really possible post Covid-19!
For the coming months and perhaps even years I fear our natural caution will be at the forefront of our minds creating a far from ideal mindset. Dulling or even ruining what would normally be memories of a lifetime.
Certainly, my natural demeanour and normal interactions in such stunning locations will now be totally different to those back in early March. My desire to readily engage with others will just not be as it would have been, in pre-Covid-19 ‘normal’ times!

This gathering will not be possible post Covid-19.
Keeping others and ourselves safe (unlike the Bournemouth beach fracas) is going to be with us until that magic bullet of a Covid-19 vaccine is found.

The post Covid-19 holiday experience will just not be the same. Getting clear of Covid-19 can’t come soon enough.
Staycation or tropical long haul, B&B or posh hotel, all of which I’ve always welcomed will now be in the age of the ‘new normal’.
This ‘new normal’ is something none of us want but sadly it looks like we will be stuck with it for the foreseeable future.

On the road in Penang, Malaysia you would not be allowed to do this for starters!
Although, Covid has contaminated the planet, I am determined in not letting it corrupt my memory too.
