Visit A Cannabis Factory Legally in Canada
On recent trip, sorry, journey to Canada I did find myself passing near to the small town of Smiths Falls, Ontario only to be told, it’s the cannabis capital of the country!
My news radar clicked into action, so I started to ask more questions only to be told as we approached the outskirts of the town that the company concerned was in a former Hershey chocolate bar plant.
Tweed cannabis factory in Smiths Falls Canada is very large and has its own visitors centre too.
This really peaked my curiosity, so a quick detour and stop was therefore requested of the driver.
Only for me to be further opened mouthed when I found out that the company is called ‘Tweed’, yes you have got it too!
Plus, that the huge factory is also open for visitors!

At this point I just could not wait to get inside and see what this now legalised drug factory in Canada could offer the average tourist.
The welcoming state of the art visitors centre came complete with a very stylish shop and a lovely smart contemporary café too!

Guided tours were available but as the time was pressing, a short sign-posted walking route took me to the main places of interest and for me of wonder at!
I had only every seen before vast swathes of cannabis plants on police drug raid films on the news and to see similar in a legal factory did seem rather weird.

The first part of the tour explained about the history and the places in the world that the plant grew or existed and some other basic information but with some excellent illustration boards.

Taking the stairs to the next level I was confronted with I think was a hydroponic growing area. Complete with hundreds of plants enjoying being bathed under the artificial yellow lighting that had them growing what to them was skyward, but was in fact to the roof of a former chocolate factory.

Several such rooms were on the route around the facility and the next one consisted of hundreds of baby plants. Truely these were a sea of ‘pot plants’ waiting for their turn to be moved into the best growing halls next door.
The former chocolate plant will again be producing chocolate bars, this time with some new additives. The Canadian laws are in a period of change with this issue and more news is to come out very soon.

I could not believe the size and scale of the plant and here I mean the building itself, staggering and confounding for it is now the biggest employer in the town by far.
As with any tourist facility on the way out you are confronted with a shop for souvenirs. The quality of the items on sale were the highest (no pun intended) quality!

Sweat tops, tee shirts, purses, hand bags and cushions and other paraphernalia and not being a user, had no idea?
The trendy coffee shop would look very much at home at any high street (again no pun intended) in the world.

My colleague asked if the coffee had any special additives, the charming barista said just coffee with milk and sugar madam!
Certainly, as a travel writer you do get to sample some very different experiences and places. And yet again, this is not intended as a pun, but it has to be high on my list of unusual ones for sure!
