DAVID BECKHAM & COLIN FIRTH IN WEYMOUTH

DAVID BECKHAM & COLIN FIRTH IN WEYMOUTH

Seems that my hometown of Weymouth and Portland is turning into a celebrity hot spot with likes of David Beckham and Colin Firth making a beeline for it.

Yesterday, David Beckham his son Brooklyn and it is believed also Guy Ritchie descended on the town to go out sea fishing for the day.

Booking a trip on the fishing charter boat ‘Katie Ann’ the trio set off for a trip out to wrecks off Portland Bill where they would have had the chance to catch a whole host of line caught fish such as Cod, Pollock, Ling, Conger and if lucky the really tasty Sea Bass.

Perhaps they should have made plans to come a little later in the calendar as in the next few weeks Weymouth harbour will see a huge and popular weekend long Weymouth Seafood Festival where even more celebrities, this time chefs, will be in town to show what they can do with such catches.

The maritime theme was continued with top Hollywood actor Colin Firth coming to the town to shoot scenes for his new film about the round the world sailor who tried to dupe the world into believing he had sailed around the world in record time but he was found out by his radio transmissions that did not match up to the weather where he was supposed to be.

Poor David and Brooklyn got caught up themselves as when they returned to shore they were mobbed by hundreds of fans; mainly young girls who wanted to get pictures of the pair.

David did pose more readily for the dreaded selfie but Brooklyn was rather more reserved by the throng on the harbour side that surrounded them and netted their pictures as they stepped off the ‘Katie Ann’ fishing boat.

This often underrated town of Weymouth and Portland has wonderful assets for both celebrities and tourists and it seems that if it can attract more of both then the resort that sits at the centre of the world famous Jurassic coast has a great future ahead!
