The Mimozas Resort in Cannes-Mandelieu is an ideal base for exploring the region where you can live like a star for a week without breaking the bank.
This whole area as well as being a haunt for film stars and celebrities has its self been a star in many films too. A drive along the Grande Corniche, the dramatic cliff-side road from Nice to Monaco that offers some of the most breath-taking views of the French Riviera, this was made famous in Hitchcock’s ‘To Catch a Thief’ (1955). Coming more up to date, it was also featured in the James Bond film, Goldeneye (1995).

A 15 minute boat trip from Cannes is the Isle Sainte Marguerite and home to an historic fort which in its time has housed a number of famous prisoners until its closure in the 20th century.Its most famous was the ‘Man in the Iron Mask’ who was depicted in the Alexandre Dumas novel and in many films, including the 1998 version starring Leonardo di Caprio. You can visit the prisoner’s real cell at Fort Royal.
A Bardot Cannes Chic Bikini ?
Having packed your best bikini for your Cannes chic visit on the French Riviera you could recreate your very own Bardot moment and take a trip along the coast to Saint-Tropez and its body beautiful beach. This was just one of the many locations in the area used in the 1956 film ‘And God Created Woman’ which placed Brigitte Bardot and her bikini in the newspaper and media spotlight of that period.
Next door to the resort is a great golf course.
An entry fee of €10 could give you that ‘high roller’ life style at Casino de Monte Carlo, the casino is often featured in many films shot within Monaco. This small principality is where film star Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier for the first time whilst she was filming ‘To Catch a Thief’ with co-star Cary Grant. She then went on to marry her fairy-tale prince one year later and lived in its royal palace until her tragic death in 1982.
