Checking into a hotel can at times be a bit of a lottery, sometimes you appear to win, sometimes you appear to lose!
Losing, that’s when you get to your room and find you are looking at brick wall 2 metres away and the aircon or kitchen extractor fans are next door or the lift comings and goings keep you awake for a good part of the night!
By chance and a late booking found me at the Thistle Marble Arch, London I was gambling and the odds were against me, perhaps? A large hotel, if not a very large certainly for the UK, located at the very end of Oxford Street.
Not really thinking too much about the room I would be allocated, it was past 9pm, it had been a long day at a series of travel related meetings so a decent clean bed and a shower would have fitted the bill at that time of the end of an extensive working day.
However I find myself in what the hotel describes as their ly refurbished apartment room way up on their eighth floor with so much space I would have needed a dozen cats to swing and it would still not be cramped!
In this case it looked like I was a winner and this time twice! I was the first person to be checked into this ly completed room. Located high in the eastern corner of the building with very extensive views along Oxford Street and the city skyline beyond.
It made for a pleasant and more opulent stay than I had bargained for, if somewhat brief. I only wish I had booked two nights! I had far too little time to really get to enjoy the whole experience with a quick shower and a tasty in-room dining experience on their fish and chips it was time for bed.
No time to relax and read in the separate corner lounge area, or microwave a meal in the built-in kitchenette or fill the fridge with wine, fruit or food and invite a few friends or business colleagues around. The 42in flat screen TV in the lounge went unwatched, as did the second one in the bedroom.
Certainly with what I had paid, I was a winner this time in the hotel lottery check-in game.
Have you been a winner or loser in this hotel check-in lottery, if so do let me know?
