A Bulgarian golf course has just been voted the European Golf Resort of the Year 2014.
The dazzling, cliff hugging course on the Black Sea is a test for golfers of every handicap, with tees set high above greens and it even has a tee right in the sea itself!
The course in May hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship event which was in its 50th Anniversary year, so the award for Thracian Cliffs by the International
Association of Golf Tourism Operators (IAGTO), which is the global trade organization for the golf industry is the icing on the cake for the management team that run the three year old course.
The prize was awarded at a recent gala dinner during the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in Spain.
The European Golf Resort of the Year award is voted by many specialist golf touroperators and they now number over 516 from 62 countries.
The operators were asked to vote and the following criteria were considered:Quality of Golf Courses and Accommodation,Value for money, Customer Satisfaction, Accessibility to Tee Times and several other catogaries.
The award serves as a perfect recognition for a unique piece of coastline in Bulgaria.
The Thracian Cliffs golf course does challenge every golfer and I know as I played a few holes there myself. It is, I feel a "must-play" golf courses in the world and was designed by Gary Player.
This prestigious prize for Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort is received just one year after Bulgaria was voted Undiscovered Golf Destination.
